CEMECA, Dedougou, Burkina Faso<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partner Organisation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CEMECA is the executing institution of a community-based NGO called SALAKI. SALAKI\/CEMECA is located in Dedougou, in the northwest of Burkina Faso, a region called “La Boucle du Mouhoun” and consisting of five provinces. CEMECA commenced Operation in October 2005, as a multimedia centre, including animation activities on social issues in the villages of the region, a cyber-centre, video production, and a radio station called Radio Salaki, which started in October 2007. CEMECA also organises training at three levels: training for local population on using the Internet, informatics and Basic communication skills. Furthermore, training on video production and broadcasting (with the focus on “community radio stations”) is offered at national and international levels. CEMECA is a founding member of Mediafrica.Net (www.mediafrica.net<\/a>), a resource website for African community radio stations and media practitioners, and also conducts e-Learning courses for African community broadcasters and media practitioners, combining distant learning and on-the-spot workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Objective<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The project intends to contribute towards sensitising the population about nutrition issues: prevention of\u00a0 poor nutrition and Promotion of better childcare, in particular by promoting the use of two local products, moringa and misola, which are nutritious options for weaning babies and supplementing children’s nourishment; more regular visits to dispensaries, as well as the care of young mothers with children under five, and other women of childbearing age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • 750 families sensitised and activated in the better feeding of children, and better health care and support (visit to dispensaries in 15 villages)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 75 family vegetable gardens, with moringa plants<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • 90 women trained in the production of misola and preparation of moring<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Storage facilities for misola and moringa powder in at least 10 villages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • Training of the community groups (two days), on their role in the project<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 600 visits to the villages<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Production of radio programmes:
      Production of 15 public talk shows<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Training workshop for women community leaders on moringa preparation and storage methods<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Production of two booklets in local languages, about misola and moringa,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 15 video\/cine animation and public discussion in the villages + feedback programme on\u00a0the radio<\/li>\n\n\n\n
