Develop the Capacity of Community Radio Stations in Tanzania in Measuring, Understanding and Developing their Audiences

TEC, Tanzania

Project Objective

The national communication office aims at facilitating a capacity building measure in three steps for management of Catholic and secular radio stations located throughout Tanzania, so as to build participants’ capacity to measure and understand audiences, to empower them to make informed decisions that enable a station to satisfy audiences and stakeholders, generate more income, and become more sustainable. Findings of information and data gathered through audience research are planned to be used to enhance the financial sustainability.

Actions

A three-step model is followed.

  • Step One: Two facilitators shall give a training workshop at Kurasini Centre (in Dar-es-Salaam) whereby participants will receive theoretical input and carry out practical work.
  • Step Two: Participants shall be given three months to implement their audience research plan, analyse data, and produce a report. This phase will be mentored and supervised by facilitators.
  • Step Three: A three-day meeting shall be organised. Participants from all stations will come together to share experiences/difficulties/challenges, etc. on the implementation of their audience research plan, and design a networking strategy (follow-up steps), if deemed necessary.
